a poem which explores identity frozen in a process of transformation. in tying specific human experience with non-human natural processes, like a cage reflects on stillness as survival.

out among the sticks, it sits,

like a cage.

between winter and spring,

when soon supple bones are brittle, breaking.

don’t mention blooming flowers,

crumpled petals perfumed with presuppositions.

fragrant, festering, fearful of growth –

frozen, for a time.
